Northtown Automotive: A Reset That Turned a Stalled Launch Around

VMG began working with Northtown Automotive on September 24, 2025. Six months later, the launch still had open questions on process, products, and claims across sales, F&I, and service. In March 2026, three members of VMG's team returned for a reset visit.

During that visit, VMG rebuilt the sales-to-finance handoff, walked service advisors through the claims process coverage by coverage, and worked with the store's third-party administrators to change the F&I contracts. Because Northtown serves a rural market, that included an expanded towing radius so the coverage matched where customers actually drive.

The timeline of results:

  • September 24, 2025: VMG engagement begins.

  • March 2026: reset visit. A new business manager is hired the day before it wraps.

  • First four months after the reset: the new business manager grosses more than the store's other two business managers combined, even though their totals include two extra months.

  • First half of 2026: the store runs nearly $300,000 ahead of its 2025 pace, when it worked with a different agency.

  • First nine months with VMG: more than $1.4 million in F&I gross.

What These F&I Consulting Results Have in Common

The process came before the training. At Northtown, VMG fixed the handoff and the contracts before coaching the new hire on them. The St. Cloud manager learned the 7-Minute Menu from her first month, so there were no old habits to undo.

The handoff from sales got attention. Northtown's gains followed a rebuilt sales-to-finance turnover. At Harry Brown's Family Automotive, VMG's team surfaced a disconnect between the desk and F&I that the store had not seen, and the store went on to hit its PVR and penetration goals.

Each business manager was coached individually. The St. Cloud manager and the $147 to $1,102 CPVR manager both improved through one-on-one coaching rather than group training alone. VMG National Training Director Julie Barton reports that several managers she coaches have pushed VSC penetration past 60% while also raising PVR.

Store leadership held the process. At Northtown, the GSM now holds F&I and sales staff accountable on process and paperwork, which is why the results continued after VMG's visit ended.

How Long F&I Consulting Takes to Show Results

Most VMG clients see measurable movement within the first several months. At Northtown, the clearest gains appeared within four months of the reset. In St. Cloud, the business manager's numbers climbed steadily across nine months, starting from zero experience.

Longer relationships show whether results hold. Lockwood Motors and Sharp Automotive have each worked with VMG for more than ten years.

Automotive and RV Results

VMG's results span franchise automotive stores, a commercial truck dealership, and RV dealers. RV clients such as Hilltop Camper and RV, AC Nelsen RV World, Burlington RV Superstore, and Leach Camper Sales of Lincoln report gains in F&I income, efficiency, and compliance. For how F&I differs in an RV store, see VMG's guide to RV F&I products.

In the Dealers' Words

"You and your team defined the difference between being just another vendor and being a true, valued business partner." Chet Lockwood, Dealer Principal, Lockwood Motors

"We have grown from 100 units per month to over 150 with your help." Doug Sharp, Dealer Principal, Sharp Automotive

"It was the perseverance of your team that brought to light the disconnect of our desk to F&I." Michael Brown, President, Harry Brown's Family Automotive

How These Results Compare to Industry Benchmarks

StoneEagle's first-half 2026 data puts the average F&I profit at $1,989 per vehicle retailed, with 1.55 products per deal, 45% VSC penetration, and 39% GAP penetration (StoneEagle). The St. Cloud manager's nine-month numbers sit above that average on PVR ($2,524), products per deal (2.88), and GAP penetration (51.2%). Her store is a truck dealership and she is one manager, so treat the comparison as a direction, not a like-for-like benchmark. For how PVR is calculated, see What Is PVR in Car Sales?

Frequently Asked Questions

Does F&I consulting actually work?

It can, when the engagement changes the process and coaches each business manager. VMG clients have reported results such as more than $1.4 million in F&I gross in nine months at Northtown Automotive and a new business manager's PVR rising from $1,659 to $2,524 at a St. Cloud truck dealership.

What results do Vision Management Group clients report?

VMG clients report higher F&I gross, PVR, products per deal, and product penetration, along with gains in unit sales, compliance, and efficiency. Examples include Hilltop Camper and RV more than doubling finance income and Sharp Automotive growing from 100 to more than 150 units per month.

Does Vision Management Group work with RV and truck dealerships?

Yes. VMG works with automotive, commercial truck, and RV dealerships nationally, including Hilltop Camper and RV, AC Nelsen RV World, Burlington RV Superstore, RCD RV, Humphrey RV, and Leach Camper Sales of Lincoln.

How are these results measured?

VMG pulls a baseline of PVR, products per deal, and product penetration from the dealership's DMS at the start of an engagement and tracks the same metrics throughout. The figures on this page are VMG engagement data and client-reported results, not independently audited.
